California’s state law enforcement officials are investigating a two-vehicle collision that took place in the early morning hours of this past Monday, April 21, 2014. The car accident resulted in the deaths of three people and in one person being hospitalized in critical condition. The police suspect that drunk driving may be one of the causes of the fatal auto accident.
At approximately 12:46 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, a red Mazda flipped over and landed on its roof in the southbound side of Freeway 101 that runs through downtown Santa Barbara, California. The California Highway Patrol does not currently have an explanation as to why the motor vehicle flipped over. The disabled Mazda was struck moments after flipping over by a white Ford Mustang. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that three occupants of the Mazda were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and that one was injured critically and hospitalized.
A local area high school confirmed that two of its seniors were among the killed occupants of the red Mazda. The school is hosting a crisis management team that will speak with students and parents and help them cope with this tragedy.
The California Highway Patrol has also confirmed that the police arrested the driver of the Ford Mustang, 52 year-old Kimberly Ann Kreis. The police state that Kreis was intoxicated as she drove southbound on Freeway 101, and that following arrest she was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.
