A two-car accident has led to the arrest of a 39 year-old West Hempstead, New York man. The Nassau County, New York police arrested Roy Gomez on March 13 in Baldwin, New York on suspicion of driving under the influence. The arrest occurred after the Chevrolet Trailblazer he was driving collided with the rear end of a Nissan sedan carrying three passengers that was stopped at a red light. In an attempt to flee, Mr. Gomez drove his Trailblazer a few blocks before parking and taking off on foot. It wasn’t until 3:30 a.m. that police found Mr. Gomez asleep in a boat where they were able to arrest him without further incident.

The three occupants of the Nissan were in need of medical treatment and were transported to a local hospital. A 65 year-old male passenger was thought to have sustained the most serious injuries, which were considered critical. The driver and backseat passenger were believed to have suffered non-life threatening injuries. However, the rear passenger died later that night from his injuries.
