A 19-year old man ran a red light last Wednesday in Phoenix, Arizona. He then collided with a Ford pickup truck. He has been arrested for manslaughter after the driver of that vehicle tragically died.
The truck was being driven by one Viridiana Espinoza. She was not wearing a seatbelt. As a result, she was ejected from her truck and thrown clear of the wreckage. She was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after the accident. A 15 year-old passenger in her truck is still listed in critical condition.
Eduardo Soto-Ramirez, the suspect driver, also suffered serious personal injuries. Police had suspicions that he had been driving drunk. A blood alcohol concentration test confirmed this and came up at 0.210, almost 3 times the legal limit.
Soto-Ramirez had no identification on him and his driving privileges were suspended. He is also apparently living in the U.S. illegally.
Soto-Ramirez has been booked on criminal charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault. Further charges are pending.
